PB event to offer free smoke alarms

Pine Bluff residents can sign up April 13 to get a free smoke alarm installed.

The American Red Cross Greater Arkansas Chapter, United Way and Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services will host a party that is a kickoff for the "Sound the Alarm" home fire safety campaign.

There will be games and activities, food and information on Red Cross services at the event, which is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center, 211 W. Third Ave., No. 135, in Pine Bluff.

Those who need a smoke alarm in the area also can sign up for a free one online at getasmokealarm.org or by calling the Pine Bluff Fire department at (870) 730-2048.

Alarms will be installed at the end of April.
