TheatreSquared supporters gathered Aug. 28 at the Fayetteville home of Brett Burch and Kirk Thompson to kick off the theater group's 2018-19 season.

Theater patrons were treated to a poolside preview performance of Once, which runs through Sept. 23.

Welcome reception

What: The group welcomed Cam Patterson, M.D., as the new chancellor of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Martin Miller, executive director, announced to the more than 300 gathered for the kickoff that the West Avenue Terrace in the theater's new home will be named the Kirk Thompson and Brett Burch West Avenue Terrace.

The season also will include productions of Skeleton Crew, Oct. 10-Nov. 4; Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, Nov. 28-Dec. 30; Every Brilliant Thing, Jan. 1-Feb. 10; The Wolves, Feb.27-March 24; and The Legend of Georgia McBride, May 1-May 26.

Next up for the nonprofit organization is the Gala for Education on Nov. 15, which will feature a cabaret performance by Bryce Pinkham, a Tony and Grammy awards nominee. Mary and George Benjamin will be presented the 2018 Arts Advocate award at the benefit.

Patrons gathered poolside included Becky and Bob Alexander, Susan and Orville Hall, Jane and Dave Gearhart, Sandy Edwards, Judy and Bill Schwab, Hannah and Greg Lee, Stacy and Rod Bigelow and Judy and Jay McDonald.

Sylvia and Tommy Boyer opened their Fayetteville home Aug. 30 for a Friends of UAMS Northwest Chapter welcome reception for Dr. Cam Patterson as the new chancellor of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Patterson comes to UAMS from Weill-Cornell Medical Center and Komansky Children's Hospital/New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he was senior vice president and chief operating officer since 2014.

He told those gathered that his goals for the medical school include getting salaries at market level, accelerating growth on campuses, advancing digital health and telemedine, conducting "meaningful research to benefit the citizens of Arkansas" and gaining National Cancer Institute of Excellence designation.

Those welcoming the new medical school chancellor included Donna and Lewis Epley, Angela and UA Trustee Mark Waldrip, Carl Collier, Charles Scharlau, Betsy Phillips, Archie Schaffer III, Jo and Sen. Uvalde Lindsey, Sandy and UA Chancellor Joe Steinmetz and Patsy and Dan Ferritor.
