FAYETTEVILLE -- A $250,000 estate gift from Dick Trammel and his wife Nancy will provide scholarships for cheerleaders at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

The Dick and Nancy Trammel Endowed Razorback Cheerleading Scholarship will support members of the Razorback cheerleading squad, according to the gift announcement.

Dick Trammel was a member of the school's cheer squad as a UA student in the 1950s. Now an executive vice president at Arvest Bank, Trammel since 1975 has made yearly appearances with cheerleaders at UA's homecoming football game.

"I'm going to call the Hogs on the 50-yard-line as long as they let me. There's nothing like it," Trammel said in a statement released by UA. He said that with the gift, which will establish one-year scholarship awards, he wants to "make it easier for a student to enjoy their cheerleading experience, because it's an experience they will cherish the rest of their life."

Dick Trammel has received awards for service and also is chairman of the State Highway Commission.

Thirty-two students are listed as members of the co-ed UA cheerleading squad, according to online information published by the university. Members of various UA spirit squads already receive scholarships of up to $1,600 per semester, depending on their experience.

The Trammels are longtime residents of Rogers.
