CELEBRATING TEACHERS

Educators awarded for finance projects

Fourteen Arkansas educators were honored Nov. 7 for economic and personal finance projects they created and implemented in their classrooms last school year. They each received a Bessie B. Moore Award from Economics Arkansas at a luncheon at the Clinton Presidential Center.

Two teachers gave presentations on their award-winning projects. They were Jennifer Malugen of Monitor Elementary in Springdale and Phillip Carlock with Stephens Elementary. He brought students Kayla Blacksher, Makiya Harris and Nehemiah Laster to speak about the financial literacy program at the school, which involves the students running a bank and managing finances.

Other winners were Melanie Adams, Amy Braswell, Jillane Johnson, Elizabeth McMichael and Rachel Racop, teachers at Don Roberts Elementary; Larisha Nelson of Crystal Hill Elementary; Susie Thompson of Little Rock Christian Academy; Tracy Floyd, Rheachel Hendricks and Kristina Thrift of John P. Woods Elementary; Michele Jackson of Siloam Springs High School; and Jessica Culver of Ozark High School.

Economics Arkansas is a nonprofit educational organization founded to promote economic literacy in Arkansas. Bessie B. Moore served as its first executive director.
