Where I live: The Governor's Mansion Historic District in the Quapaw Quarter in the Martin-Tunnah-Fulk House, an 1892 Victorian-era house.

Occupation: Historic preservation consultant specializing in the Historic Tax Credit program and literacy advocate with the Arkansas Dyslexia Support Group.

My favorite space is: I'm torn between our foyer and kitchen.

Why? When my husband, Scott, and I bought this house 14 years ago we didn't move in immediately. We lived four blocks away and we would take turns coming over every evening to paint. When I came over I would open the oversized front door and let it swing open into the foyer and I would gaze at the foyer floor for a couple of minutes. It's a very unique parquet floor that has several different species of wood that give it a beautiful, intricate pattern.

The kitchen was a project we tackled after living here for a few years and figuring out what would best suit our needs and work with the rest of the house. We installed a wood floor to make a seamless transition from the front of the house to kitchen. We matched the door heights and widths, wood trims and trim color to the original part of the house. It was stressful trying to get it right, but I think we succeeded.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Nothing.
