Fishing hot spots

GREERS FERRY LAKE Fishing will be excellent until it gets excessively cold in January. Crappie fishing is good up all rivers and creeks around pole timber and man-made brushpiles with jigs and minnows. Bream are biting at 18-20 feet with nightcrawlers and crickets on drop-shot rigs. Black bass are scattered from the bank out to 60 feet. Just about any lure is biting most lures from the bank to 60 feet. Schooling hybrids and white bass are hitting spoons, inline spinnerbaits and topwater lures.

LAKE OVERCUP Anglers are catching big crappie at 4-8 feet. Bream are biting crickets and redworms. Bass are hitting shad imitators. Catfish are being caught on trotlines with bream and minnows, and also on rod and reels using chicken livers around the cypress trees.

LAKE DARDANELLE Largemouth bass fishing is excellent on jerkbaits, Alabama rigs, Rat-L-Traps, jigs and orange plastic crawdads. White bass and stripers fishing is excellent on Rat-L-Traps, spoons, spinnerbaits and swimbaits. Crappie fishing is excellent with various colors of jigs, and working minnows is always a good choice. Upriver the crappie have been around 5-6 feet and 7-10 feet in mid-river. Catfishing is excellent in clear water with blood bait, worms and cut bait.
