Eureka Springs man dies after car hits electric pole

A 34-year-old man died Wednesday after his vehicle veered off the road and hit an electric pole in Northwest Arkansas, authorities said. The collision happened at 6:40 a.m. on State Line Road in the Carroll County city of Holiday Island, according to an Arkansas State Police report. Nicholas Godard, 34, of Eureka Springs, was driving a 2006 Honda when he lost control in a curve, crossed the centerline and hit an electric pole, the report states. Troopers said Godard suffered fatal injuries. Conditions were described as clear at the time of the wreck. At least 416 people have died on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
