Retired Argentinian boxer Mario Melo, 56, died Sunday during a croissant eating contest in Buenos Aires.
Melo was participating in a contest to see who could eat the most croissants in one minute. The former pro boxer was reportedly on his third croissant when he choked. According to local reports, a firefighter and doctor in the crowd unsuccessfully tried to dislodge the croissant from Melo's throat before paramedics arrived on scene.
He was pronounced dead at Pinamar Hospital.
Melo most famously fought U.S. boxer Michael Moorer for the WBA light-heavyweight world title in 1990. The South American heavyweight champion was knocked out in the first round. He retired in 1998 with a 21-9 record.
It's so bad in Dallas that former Cowboys' quarterback Troy Aikman has seen enough. He wants the team to start over -- from top to bottom.
While speaking on KTCK-AM, The Ticket on Tuesday morning, Aikman called for the Cowboys to make changes while somewhat standing up for Coach Jason Garrett at the same time.
"Go through the list and this team, over a long period of time, has been what it's been," Aikman said. "It hasn't always mattered who the head coach has been. So to me, if you're asking me, I'd say there has to be a complete overhaul of the entire organization. You can't just can't simply replace head coaches and say, 'Now it's going to be better.' No, it's been shown that it's not better. And you have to address how everything is being done.
"And there's been times where I've heard Jerry [Jones] say, 'OK, look, we're going to do it differently. I'm going to do it differently.' But it's the same. Nothing changes. And that to me is the bigger issue, beyond, 'Yes, coaching's important, personnel, all those things are important, but how are you going about evaluating? How are you going about running the organization?"
An Alabama dentist is accused of slapping a player who tackled his son during a youth football game.
Tuscaloosa Police Lt. Teena Richardson said in an email to news outlets that 43-year-old Marcus Dempsey was arrested Monday in connection with the Oct. 4 Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority football game.
Richardson said Dempsey was part of a crew keeping up with first-down yardage markers when he saw his son injured during a tackle. Richardson said he then walked onto the field and slapped an opposing team's player, who stumbled backward.
Dempsey is charged with harassment. His attorney, Jay Stuck, said in a statement that he "vehemently denies these charges."
Reports didn't specify the players' ages, but according to the youth tackle football's website, 11- to 12-year-olds were playing that night.
Robert Marchand, 106, became the oldest person to cycle around France's national velodrome.
