Acree wins Bentonville Ward 2 race

BENTONVILLE -- Cindy Acree, 61, will serve as the Ward 2, Position 1 representative on the City Council after defeating Sam Whiteside, 36.

Ward 2 is in the city's northwest, everything west of North Walton Boulevard and north of Southwest 14th Street. City Council members serve two-year terms and are paid $711 a month.

The complete but unofficial vote totals were:

• Acree: 7,241 (64%)

• Whiteside: 4,046 (36%)

Acree, who grew up in Bentonville, is the CEO of the Elizabeth Richardson Center. She served as a state representative and held numerous government appointments when living in Colorado. She returned to Bentonville in 2015.

She has said she wants to ensure that everyone is treated fairly when dealing with city departments and wants to improve accessibility to city officials.

Whiteside grew up in Gravette and is a four-year resident of Bentonville. He is a senior manager for private brand sourcing for Walmart.

The city adopted new ward boundaries in 2017 that will take effect Jan. 1. Candidates live in the ward from which they sought election based on the new boundaries.

Tim Robinson is the incumbent of this seat but will reside in Ward 1 in the new boundaries. He was re-elected to council Tuesday.
