GREENWOOD — Make it four consecutive seasons without a loss in conference play for the Greenwood Bulldogs.
Senior quarterback Peyton Holt took over Friday on senior night to help guide Greenwood to an unbeaten 6A-West Conference record with a 40-0 rout of Lake Hamilton at Smith-Robinson Stadium.
“He is playing awesome football,” Greenwood Coach Rick Jones said. “He is a nice player and a great athlete. I thought he would do well moving from wide receiver to quarterback this year. But I didn’t know how well. I’m proud of him.”
Holt finished 17-of-26 passing for 206 yards including 3 touchdowns. He also had two rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs (9-1, 7-0).
Greenwood, the 6A-West Conference champions, took a 20-0 lead into the break behind a strong first-half performance from Holt.
Holt found senior Isaiah Belue with a 6-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead on Greenwood’s initial possession of the game after forcing a three-and-out punt.
Holt again capped a scoring drive with a 17-yard touchdown run to extend the advantage out to 14-0 with about two minutes left in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs pushed their edge to 20-0 in the second quarter with another touchdown pass from Holt. This time he found junior Lazaro Angel for an 18-yard touchdown run.
Greenwood was able to turn the fumble into a 27-0 advantage with another touchdown pass from Holt. He found sophomore running back Hunter Wilkinson on a swing pass for a 46-yard touchdown.
Lake Hamilton (5-5, 2-5) fumbled the ball six times, turning two of those over.
Senior running back Marc Jones scored on a 4-yard rush in the 20-point third quarter to take a 33-0 advantage. Holt capped the quarter, and set the final 40-0 score, with a 5-yard touchdown run with about three minutes left.
Lake Hamilton was led by junior Malik Brewer finishing with 12 carries for 45 yards.
