2 suspects charged in July Little Rock killing

One man already held in 2nd slaying

Two men were charged with capital murder this week nearly four months after a man was shot and killed in his vehicle on Jefferson Street in Little Rock, authorities said.

Darrin Jackson, a 25-year-old Little Rock resident currently in the Pulaski County jail facing a separate charge of first-degree murder, and Christopher Wayne Greene, 26, were charged in the slaying of Maurice Culberson on July 7, Little Rock police spokesman officer Eric Barnes said Wednesday.

Culberson was dropping off his brother at his apartment just before 11 p.m. when two men ran up to the 2003 Lincoln Town Car and fired multiple shots into his chest, according to previous reports.

The two men fled, police reported initially, but Culberson's brother, who had not yet entered his apartment, was outside when the shooting began.

Culberson was transferred to UAMS Medical Center but died later from his injuries, according to a police report from the shooting. A police spokesman said in July that investigators were considering a robbery angle among other reasons for the shooting, but Barnes could not confirm a motive Wednesday.

Jackson was arrested just over a month later in connection with a second fatal shooting, according to an arrest report. Officers arrested Jackson on Aug. 24 a block away from the yard where Donnell Walker, 39, was found shot in his upper body earlier that day, according to previous reports.

Walker was transported to a hospital and later died, an arrest report said. Officers initially charged Jackson with second-degree murder, but that charge was raised to first-degree after the case entered Pulaski County Circuit Court.

Jackson was in the Pulaski County jail facing charges of aggravated assault and second-degree terroristic threatening along with first-degree and capital murder as of Wednesday evening. No bail had been set for the capital murder charge as of Wednesday evening, but a $250,000 bail was in place for the first-degree murder charge.

Greene surrendered at the department's 12th Street Station on Tuesday after officers identified him as a suspect, according to an arrest report. Greene was in the Pulaski County jail Wednesday evening in lieu of a $1 million bond.
