The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association hosted a riding and shooting competition Sunday at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Bentonville.

Mounted contestants competed in a fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers, each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition.

The object of the sport is to hit a variety of targets while galloping thru obstacles at speed. In addition, the riders are encouraged to wear authentic cowboy and cowgirl clothing reminiscent of the old west.
