Hendrix students get SMU access

Hendrix College students seeking to pursue an education at Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology in Dallas will now be able to apply for early admission, according to a news release.

President of Hendrix College William Tsutsui and Craig Hill, dean of the theology school, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on March 1. The agreement allows Hendrix students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply to the school's Dallas campus and Houston/Galveston extension program for a fall semester by Oct. 15 -- a month ahead of the Nov. 1 early deadline listed on the Perkins School of Theology website. On the website the regular deadlines to apply to the school's Dallas Campus is May 1 and to the school's Houston/Galveston extension program is July 1.

In the release, Tsutsui and Hill expressed mutual sentiments embracing the new partnership.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Hendrix students pursuing ministry in The United Methodist Church," said Tsutsui, a former dean and professor at Southern Methodist University's Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. "Together, Hendrix and SMU's Perkins School of Theology have inspired generations of United Methodist clergy in Arkansas and across the country.

"This agreement celebrates that history, as well as our continued commitment to educating future generations of United Methodist Church leaders."

"I am particularly excited about the new forms of connection and collaboration this agreement encourages," Hill said. "Our two schools can enrich each other in countless ways -- from faculty engagement between both institutions to on-site learning opportunities for students. We are eager to be close partners with Hendrix College and so to realize our combined potential."
