Where I live: We are just a couple of miles north of Rogers. The front of property is in the city limits, but the back half is not. We have cattle, chickens, horses, dogs, lots of garden space and a compost pile. It fits us perfectly. It has a distinct country feel, but you can still get to town quickly.

Occupation: I retired from a career in financial services. My business, the Cooking Studio, is just a hobby that got out of control. It’s a restaurant and private event center, where we also do pre-fixed dinners and offer cooking classes once a month. We’d been teaching cooking classes at the farm for seven years before we moved.

My favorite space is: The kitchen.

Why: We built this house around the position of kitchen window because I wanted sunlight and a view of the valley. It has a view of this cedar tree I love that’s green all year. The kitchen is the center hub of the house. It’s done in contemporary style with high ceilings and windows all around. Here I can scan our art collection and have easy access to my iPad and cookbooks. It’s a creative, restful spot for me. You can see lots of deer and animals from here, and the kitchen has a patio with flowers. It’s just a beautiful, private space.

If I could make one change to improve the space: I would want it to have an interpretive mural. As it is, I have a beautiful wall. We paint it different colors and hang a large piece of art there.
