New charge filed weeks after wreck

A Fayetteville man faces a new charge weeks after a pedestrian was hit by a car and seriously injured, authorities said.

Songkham Soupharack, 62, was driving at 3:30 p.m. May 13 near 809 E. Huntsville Road in Fayetteville when he struck a 63-year-old pedestrian, according to a police report.

Soupharack had a blood alcohol level of 0.127, above the legal limit of 0.08, and was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, the report said.

After the wreck, a family member told officers that the victim was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo., where doctors said he had a broken pelvis and a collapsed lung and was possibly paralyzed from the waist down, the report said.

A second-degree battery charge was then filed against Soupharack because of the seriousness of the injuries, according to the police report.
