Three teenage girls were arrested Monday night in central Arkansas after videos posted to Snapchat showed a baby they were supposed to be caring for instead being taunted with a Taser, authorities said.
The 1-year-old girl was taken to a hospital to be checked out but was determined to be unhurt, according to a statement posted on the Conway Police Department's Facebook page.
The teens, whose names weren't released because they are minors, were booked into the Faulkner County juvenile detention center. Each faces a charge of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to the statement, a video posted to the social media app Snapchat showed three teens who were supposed to be baby-sitting but instead were "laughing hysterically while taunting the baby girl with a Taser, which caused the child to scream and sob in uncontrollable fear."
According to a Police Department report, the video featured a laughing emoji and showed one of the teens pointing a Taser at the girl.
"In the video, you can see and hear the electric prongs on the taser lighting up," officer Brittani Little wrote in the report. "The baby is visibly terrified and begins crying and trying to get away. You can hear the person recording laughing and see [a second teen] laughing."
The baby is seen wailing and reaching her arms for help, Little wrote.
One of the teens then "walks to the end of the bed and stretches her arm out and zaps the taser two more times in the child's direction," Little wrote, noting the child appears "out of breath from crying so hard."
"[One of the teens] is seen in the background slapping her leg she is laughing so hard," Little wrote.
Another video showed one of the teens "swing back and hit child on the back of the head," Little wrote.
After seeing the posts, the girl's mother took the child to Conway Regional Medical Center and also contacted authorities.
One of the teens later told investigators "the child was never touched with the taser," Little wrote. The officer added that two of the teens said it was the third one's "fault for posting the videos and neither of them saw wrongdoing in their actions."
