HIGHFILL -- Allegiant Airlines announced today a new, nonstop, seasonal route from Northwest Arkansas to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Fla., that is expected to take flight in June.

The flights will operate twice weekly from Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport.

"At Allegiant, we really appreciate the support of the Northwest Arkansas community," said Daniel Meyer, manager of airports for the carrier. "On June 6th will be our first departure from XNA to Destin. We're going to have introductory fares starting at $68 one-way."

Kelly Johnson, airport manager, said the future of the route will depend on how popular it proves to be.

"If you don't use service, you lose that service," she said. "We managed to reel these guys in, so let's take full advantage of this opportunity."

With the addition, Allegiant will offer nonstop service to four cities from XNA, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla.
