Hopeful exits race for District 80 seat

Kim Snow of Fayetteville said this week that she's decided against challenging state Rep. Charlene Fite, R-Van Buren, in this year's election.

In October, Snow announced her intention to run as a Democrat for the House District 80 seat. Snow said Tuesday in a text message that she is no longer running because "the timing wasn't right."

Meanwhile, Casey Copeland of Prairie Grove said he plans to seek the Libertarian Party of Arkansas' nomination for District 80 during the party's nominating convention Feb. 24-25 in Little Rock.

Copeland is an attorney ad litem representing children in dependency-neglect cases. He said he joined the Libertarian Party in 2004 and 2005 after serving as a Washington County justice of the peace from 1999-2002 as a Republican. He served on the Prairie Grove City Council from 2011-17. He also lost a bid for a Washington County district judge post to Graham Nations.

Fite has served in the House since 2013. District 80 includes parts of Crawford and Washington counties. Fite is a retired school psychologist who is chairman of the House Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs Committee.
