Fayetteville 74, Christian County, Ky. 34

The Purple Bulldogs steadily pulled away en route to the easy win in the first round of the 32nd annual Poplar Bluff Showdown on Thursday evening.

Tamaaury Releford, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, poured in a team-high 25 points and was Fayetteville's only player in double figures. Austin Garrett and Alonzo Releford added nine points each for the Purple'Dogs, who led 18-14 after one quarter, but was in control 60-34 after three.

Senior Collin Cooper sat out with a minor ankle sprain. Fayetteville (8-2) will face the Poplar Bluff-Memphis Central winner tonight at 7.

Farmington 67, Cave City 57

Will Pridmore poured in a game-high 33 points, and Farmington finished the game with a 26-10 run to earn a first-round victory over Cave City during the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament at Mountain Home.

The Cavemen (6-5) took a 44-38 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals (11-4) pulled within one at 47-46 on a layup by Pridmore with 6:30 remaining, and teammate Tony Mayo later drained a 3-pointer for the lead. Pridmore scored twice more, and after Tyler Vollmer scored off a turnover, the Cardinals had a five-point lead of their own at 55-50.

Pridmore was the only player in double figures for Farmington, which plays in a 4 p.m. semifinal game today against either Paragould or Clarendon.

Huntsville 47, Monett, Mo. 33

The Eagles rolled to a big win in the opener of the Berryville Tournament on Thursday.

Beau Welchel scored 15 points to lead Huntsville (10-4) and Sean McCone added 15.

Berryville 50, Pocahontas 37

The Bobcats claimed a first-round win in the Berryville tournament on Thursday.

Zach Webb led the way for Berryville with 19 points and Landon Chester scored 13.

Girls

Fayetteville 73, Houston Wheatley 28

Four players scored in double-figures and unbeaten Fayetteville rolled in the first round of the Sandra Meadows Holiday tournament in Duncanville, Texas, on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs (6-0) got a team-high 14 points from Sasha Goforth. Hatianna Releford scored 12 points, and Georgia Templeton and Coriah Beck scored 10 points each.

Fayetteville raced to a 27-11 lead in the first quarter, hitting four 3-pointers. The Lady Bulldogs held Wheatley scoreless in the second quarter.

Telisha Brown scored a game-high 24 points for Wheatley (9-4) including six 3-pointers.

Fayetteville will return to action at 10:30 a.m. today.

Rogers Heritage 62, Enid, Okla. 59

The Lady War Eagles rallied from a 15-point first-half deficit to earn the win Thursday in the first round of the Enid Holiday Classic.

Maddie Lynge led Heritage with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, while Sydney Kinnamon added 15, including four 3-pointers. Lanee Knight and Alex Pabon added eight points each.

Heritage (4-6) drained 12 3-pointers in the win, trailing 25-10 after a quarter and 32-29 at halftime. The Lady War Eagles face Norman (Okla.) North tonight at 7 in the semifinals.

Bentonville High 71, Harrisonville, Mo. 37

Bentonville outscored Harrisonville, 34-11, in the second half as the Lady Tigers cruised to victory in the opening day of the Mercy Lady Cardinal Classic in Webb City.

Maryam Dauda had 16 points to lead Bentonville (9-2), which enjoyed a 37-26 halftime cushion before outscoring Harrisonville 26-8 in the third quarter. Natalie Smith had 12 of her 14 points in that third-quarter run, while Avery Hughes added 10.

The Lady Tigers will play at 6 p.m. today against St. Louis T&L.

Charleston 43, Little Rock Central 41

Alexis Grandison's bucket with 13 seconds remaining in regulation pushed Charleston past Little Rock Central during the first round of the Hoops for Hunger Tournament in Russellville.

Baylee King had 13 points and Payton Rucker 12 for Charleston (13-0), which plays Two Rivers in a 4 p.m. semifinal game today.

Norfork 61, Farmington 50

Norfork outscored Farmington 23-9 in the second quarter and knocked off the Lady Cardinals during the first round of the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament in Mountain Home.

Norfork used the outburst to build a 37-23 halftime cushion, then sealed the victory by hitting 21 of 24 free throws.

Alexis Roach and Trinity Johnson scored 11 apiece to lead Farmington (10-2), which plays Highland in a consolation game at 11:30 a.m. today.

Berryville 73, Hamburg 35

The Lady Bobcats cruised to a first-round win in the Berryville tournament on Thursday as 13 players scored.

Baylee Smith scored 14 for Berryville and Hannah Morrel added 11.
