Matt Machen was named regional executive of enhanced banking services at Arvest Bank. Machen joined Arvest following its acquisition of Bear State Financial Inc., the parent company of Bear State Bank. He began his banking career in 2003 and joined the predecessor to Bear State Bank in 2011. He was named CFO in 2013 and president in 2016. Machen became president and CEO of the holding company and bank in 2017. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, with a bachelor's degree in finance; the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania; and the executive financial leadership program at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.
Brent Peterson, D.O., joined Washington Regional's Northwest Arkansas Neuroscience Institute. Peterson has more than 20 years of experience as a neurosurgeon, most recently at Mosaic Life Care health system in St. Joseph, Mo. He graduated from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa, and completed a general medicine internship and neurological surgery residency at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital in Garden City, Mich. He is board certified in neurological surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
James Roundtree, MBA, BSN, RN, CNOR, was promoted to vice president of surgical services at Washington Regional Medical Center. He joined Washington Regional in early 2017 as clinical director of surgical services and later became director of surgical services. He also worked at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Bedford, Texas; Baptist Health-Fort Smith; St. John Medical Center in Tulsa; and Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He earned an associate of science in nursing from Labette Community College in Parsons, Kan.; a bachelor of science in nursing and a master of business administration from Oklahoma Wesleyan University. He became certified operating room nurse and was active in the Army Reserve for eight years.
Dr. Daniel L. Shepherd joined Washington Regional's Northwest Arkansas Neuroscience Institute. He specializes in spine surgery. Shepherd graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed a neurological surgery residency at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., where he also completed an enfolded complex spine fellowship. He participated in the Mayo Clinic Neurosurgery Program Education Committee and the Mayo Clinic Quality Fellows Program. Shepherd is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Congress of Neurological surgeons.

Gene Pharr, Washington County Farm Bureau Board member, recently was recognized at the 84th Arkansas Farm Bureau annual convention in Hot Springs for the county's work in the previous year. Each county Farm Bureau is measured in 10 program areas and awarded gold stars for exemplary effort in each. Washington County earned nine gold stars.
