Bentonville to test sirens

BENTONVILLE -- The city will test its storm warning sirens at 1 p.m. today, weather permitting.

The sirens will sound twice, as they would in an emergency. The first sound will be a steady blast for three minutes, meaning an imminently dangerous storm is approaching the city. The second sound will be alternating high and low tones for 45 seconds, meaning the weather has passed.

The storm warning system is designed to alert people who are outside. People in buildings may not hear the sirens and should use a radio, television or weather alert radio to monitor weather conditions.

Sign up for alerts can be done through www.bcalert.com. Alerts can be set to send to cell phones, home phones, through text message and email.
