Kimberly Ly of Harrison is participating in Hamilton College's (Clinton, N.Y.) Academic program in France for the 2018-19 academic year.
Hamilton in France provides students with a solid academic experience based on the College's deep commitment to a liberal arts education and personal exploration.
Founded in 1957 as Hamilton College Junior Year in France, the program is directed by Martine Guyot-Bender, the Margaret Bundy Scott Professor of French at Hamilton, and is open to qualified students at American colleges and universities. Each resident director brings extensive personal experience to directing study abroad programs and a deep knowledge of the educational system and of cultural and daily life in France.
The program's integrated academic, linguistic and cultural components enable students to progress in their academic discipline, acquire excellent linguistic proficiency, gain confidence and be more informed citizens of the world.

Kimberly Ly of Harrison, a junior majoring in French and government, is a graduate of Harrison High School. Her project is aimed at increasing access to reproductive health education and resources for Vietnamese women. Because she is studying abroad this semester, Ly was unable to make the trip to Chicago.

President Bill Clinton launched CGI U in 2007 to engage the next generation of leaders on college campuses around the world.
Each year, CGI U hosts a meeting where students, university representatives, topic experts and celebrities come together to discuss and develop innovative solutions to pressing global challenges. Students create their own Commitments to Action that address issues on campus, in local communities or around the world.
University of Arkansas at Little Rock
University of Arkansas at Little Rock students put on a successful Dance Harvest 2018 show Nov. 8-11. Kaye Pafford of Rogers, a senior dance performance major, choreographed the piece Kandid. Jessica Regalado of Rogers served as a performer
The event featured choreography by dance faculty member Robin Neveu Brown and eight undergraduate bachelor of fine arts students who are completing the required two-year choreography sequence.
Educators honoredfor excellence
Two Northwest Arkansas educators were among 14 from across the state honored for excellence in economic and personal finance teaching at the Bessie B. Moore awards luncheon on Nov. 7 in Little Rock.
Michele Jackson of Siloam Springs High School won an award for her classroom project "Make It Personal! Inspiring Teens to Embrace Personal Finance Responsibility." Jennifer Malugen of Springdale's Monitor Elementary School won for "Economics and the Three Little ..."
Each award winner received $1,000 and a copy of "The Bessie," a 7-inch statue created on a 3D printer by the Arkansas Innovation Hub.
Economics Arkansas launched the Bessie B. Moore Awards program in 1995 to honor exemplary teachers for successfully integrating economic principles into the classroom. The award is named for the private, nonprofit organization's first executive director. The contest is open to public- and private-school educators from preschool through 12th grade.
Ashland University
Sara Grider of Rogers is a member of the Women's Chorus at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. Grider is majoring in history and is a 2017 graduate of Arkansas Arts Academy High School.
The Women's Chorus, directed by Julie Strebler-Renner, provides women with an opportunity to study and perform choral literature written especially for treble voices and representing a variety of styles, eras, composers and languages. The Chorus performs at a number of campus events, including the Ashland University Festival of Lights.
University of Arkansas at Fort Smith
The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith's theatre department earned awards at the Arkansas State Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, which took place earlier this month at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia and was attended by universities in Arkansas and Louisiana.
Mist and Shadows, a Theatre @ UAFS original interactive production, won nine awards at the festival. Kyle White of Alma, Samson Sorlungsana of Springdale and Kerri Douberly of Malvern each earned Irene Ryan Acting Awards, while Matt Bowers of Fort Smith and Mykela Sparks of Alma won Awards of Excellence for lighting design and scenic design, respectively. Madison Smith of Fort Smith and Dillon Hudson of Centerton won Honor Crew Awards.
Additionally, Pablo Guerra-Monje, assistant professor of theater arts, earned an Award of Excellence for production mentorship. The production also garnered Awards of Excellence for a new work by a cast and crew.
The theatre department performed Mist and Shadows this fall as part of the university's Season of Entertainment 38, a yearlong lineup featuring a variety of theatre and musical performances. The show combines elements of escape rooms, haunted houses, and installation art and involves the audience as active participants.
Emporia State University
Bailey Bardrick of Rogers received the Edgar & Eline Schupp Memorial Scholarship, Grace Smith Rearwin/Helen Smith Copenhaver Scholarship and The Class of 1957 Reunion Scholarship Fund for the current academic year at Emporia State University.
University of Arkansas
The fall commencement ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 15 in Bud Walton Arena with Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz as the commencement speaker. A record number of students -- 1,356 -- students have registered to walk during the ceremony.
