At least three people were killed Monday in a crash involving two commercial trucks on Interstate 540 in west Arkansas, authorities said.
The accident took place around 8 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-540 near exit 3 in Van Buren, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation.
Danny Straessle, a spokesman for the agency, said a log truck crossed the median and struck a truck carrying gravel.
One person was killed in each commercial vehicle, said Bill Sadler, spokesman for the Arkansas State Police. Sadler said two other vehicles were involved in the accident and that at least one additional person died.
The southbound lanes of I-540 were blocked for several hours after the crash, but they were reopened by 1 p.m., officials said.
No information about the identity of the victims has been released.
