Stop the Violence organization seeks bike donations for Christmas giveaway

The Arkansas Stop the Violence organization — which plans to hold its 11th annual Christmas bike giveaway later this month — is holding a bike donation drive through Dec. 21. The goal for the organization is to give out 400 bikes to Little Rock-area children whose families cannot afford to buy them a bike, said the Rev. Benny Johnson. But the organization needs donated bikes.

Information on donating bikes is available from Johnson at (501) 541-1951, Elder Walker Cochran at (501) 747-8597 and Elder Chris Carrigan at (501) 297-4668.

The Arkansas Stop the Violence organization describes its mission and goal as one to help make youth understand the importance of education, independent thinking and accomplishment.

The organization also tries to help youth understand the importance of valuing not only their lives but the lives of others, and to take a stance against violence.

The Arkansas Stop the Violence leadership also raises awareness about how police and political leaders address violent crime, particularly shootings, in inner-city neighborhoods.
