Hunan Manor: a tasty tradition continues

When the temperatures dip and folks are busy with holiday shopping and preparations, "let's order Chinese" is a welcome refrain.

And in Northwest Arkansas, that means calling Hunan Manor. Patrons of the restaurant have been dining in and ordering out for years. Thirty years, to be exact.

Owner Jay Huang respects the history of the restaurant, and knows what keeps people coming back.

"We make it fresh to order and give generous portions," he says. "They have their favorite dishes, their standard orders. We take pride in that."

Jay's culinary background is impressive, including years as a chef and manager of Hunan Manor and now as an owner. Jay is dedicated to serving the dishes the restaurant is famous for, with a commitment to fresh, quality ingredients.

Hunan Manor is housed in a sleek, modern building with ample parking. Inside, the soaring windows, greenery, and large fish tank make for a serene dining experience.

But Jay knows it's all about the food. "The Crispy Beef and Lemon Chicken are favorites," Jay points out. "So is the Chicken Hunan Style. People love them."

Diners can choose from an impressive selection of entrées including poultry, pork, beef, seafood and vegetable dishes, plus appetizers, soups, chow mein, lo mein, fried rice and side dishes.

For those who can't decide or want a little bit of everything, there's the buffet, featuring a wide selection of mouth-watering favorites for lunch or dinner.

The lunch buffet is available from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. every day except Tuesdays, when the restaurant is closed. The cost is $8.72 for adults, $6.95 for children 8-11 and $4.95 for children 3-7 years old. And, for a limited time, kids under seven can enjoy the lunch buffet on Saturday & Sunday for just $1.99.

The dinner buffet is available only on Friday and Saturday nights from 5:00-8:30 p.m. It's well-priced at $9.71 for adults, $6.95 for kids 8-11 and $4.95 for kids 3-7 years old.

Of course, dishes can be ordered from the menu at any time. Adults can start their meal with a glass of wine or a beer and the Crab Rangoon, an appetizer favorite at Hunan. Or choose steamed or fried dumplings, shrimp toast, egg rolls or Hunan spicy wontons.

For an entrée, poultry fans can choose from nearly 20 dishes, from spicy Szechuan or Kung Pao Chicken to classic General Tso's or Moo Goo Gai Pan. Peking Duck is another special treat. Beef and pork entrées include Beef with Broccoli, Pepper Steak, Hunan Pork, Moo Shu, curries and more, all featuring fresh vegetables and quality meats.

Seafood lovers with have a hard time choosing between Ginger Onion Shrimp, Firecracker Shrimp, Jade Scallops and more than a dozen other delicacies from the sea. Vegetarians will delight in the many tofu and fresh vegetable entrees, including Crispy Tofu, Stir-fried Green Beans with garlic and Moo Shu Vegetables.
