Pine Bluff dentist receives highest honor

Dr. Drew Toole of Pine Bluff recently received the Arkansas State Dental Association’s Distinguished Service Award. The presentation was made during the association’s 131st annual Scientific Session at Little Rock.

“The Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to an Arkansas dentist who has unselfishly served the best interests of dentistry and the public, and has proven his/her commitment to all levels of organized dentistry in an ethical and moral fashion,” a spokesman said in a news release.

Toole is president of the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners, which oversees licensure and regulatory matters for the dental profession. He has also been president of the dental association, according to the release.

He is an adjunct faculty member for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Center for Dental Education. There, he lectures and serves as an attending dentist in the clinic and serves as an examiner for students taking final clinical examinations to become licensed dentists.

He is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry at Memphis.

Toole and his wife, Kay, have one son, Daniel Toole; two daughters, Dr. Katherine Behrents and Dr. Emily Townsend; and four grandchildren.
