The Arkansas Activities Association determined in a meeting Saturday morning that Alma will be the No. 1 seed from the 5A-West Conference, which finished the regular season in a four-way tie for first place.
Alma, Greenbrier, Harrison and Morrilton all finished 5-2 in the 5A-West. Greenbrier, Harrison and Morrilton all won their games Friday, but Alma lost to Maumelle, setting up the tiebreaker.
For the first tiebreaker, Alma and Greenbrier each went 2-1 against the co-leaders. Since Alma won the head-to-head matchup with Greenbrier, the Airedales earned the No. 1 seed while the Panthers are the No. 2.
Harrison and Morrilton were 1-2 against the other co-leaders. Harrison won the head-to-head matchup with Morrilton, so the Goblins earned the No. 3 seed while the Devil Dogs are the No. 4.
It is the first time since 2006 that there was a four-way conference tiebreaker needed in determining state playoff seedings.
In Friday's first round of the Class 5A playoffs, Alma will host White Hall, Greenbrier is at home against Camden Fairview, while Harrison travels to Hot Springs Lakeside and Morrilton is at Watson Chapel.
Other Class 5A first-round matchups include Wynne at Little Rock Christian, Little Rock McClellan at Batesville, Sylvan Hills at Nettleton and Valley View at Pulaski Academy.
