by Staff Report | October 31, 2016 at 10:27 a.m.

The Walton Family Foundation has donated $2 million toward construction of a facility Northwest Arkansas Community College plans to build in Springdale, the college announced Monday.

The gift is the largest yet made to the college foundation's NWA Ripple Effect campaign, which now has raised $3.6 million toward a goal of $15 million for the Washington County facility.

The Jackson G. and Ella Frances Byrd Trust donated $1.5 million and the Black Hills Corporation Foundation donated $100,000.

The college owns 20 acres just west of Arvest Ballpark in Springdale where it plans to build its Washington County Center, which will be about 50,000 square feet. The college foundation's board anticipates initiating construction by late 2017.
