Fayetteville Officer's Termination Appeal Hearing Canceled

FAYETTEVILLE — An appeal hearing for a Fayetteville police officer's termination was cancelled Tuesday.

Cpl. David Nguyen planned to appeal his termination from the Police Department before the Civil Service Commission.

Police Sgt. Craig Stout said he couldn't comment on the circumstances surrounding Nguyen's termination.

"He had already been terminated, but he had the right to appeal the termination," Stout said. “Now that the hearing has been cancelled, he doesn't have any other recourse."

Nguyen’s attorney, Drew Miller of Rogers, wasn’t immediately available for comment Tuesday.

The Civil Service Commission is responsible for examining and establishing eligibility for appointments and promotions. The panel, which is made up of seven city residents, also acts upon appeals from employees and disciplinary action by the mayor, police and fire chiefs.

Stout said Nguyen has been a police officer with the department since May 23, 2005.
