SPRINGDALE — American Tubing is spending $3.2 million on a 20,000-square-foot addition to its Ford Avenue plant for aluminum production, according to a news release from the Springdale Chamber of Commerce. The company expects to grow its workforce by 31 percent, adding 50 new employees.

The expansion will house aluminum production equipment.

"We are extremely excited about this new product line," Chuck Lewis, the company's president, said in the news release. "We have worked closely with our customers for the past two years to be ready for production in 2014. Since 2008 business has been somewhat flat. Growing and innovating is what we do best. It's good to have too much to do again."

Grant Tennille, executive director for the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, praised the expansion.

"American Tubing's decision to expand in Springdale rather than looking elsewhere confirms the quality and dedication of the company's existing workforce," Tennille said in the news release.

The company, a subsidiary of Alabama-based National Tubing Holding, began operations in 1976.
