Single Parent Scholarship Fund makes awards

The Jefferson County Single Parent Scholarship Fund Board recently honored recipients of its 2012 fall scholarships. Each student received a scholarship award of $500.

The recipients enrolled at Southeast Arkansas College are Felicia Boyd, Zenobia Brown, Amy Bullard, Tiffany Chavies, Barbara Frazier, Carolyn Iverson, Katrina Lewis and Donyelle Moore.

The recipients enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff are Aechia Culclager, Patricia Pryor and Holly Sutton.

Chavies and Sutton also each received additional $250 scholarships for having the highest grade point averages. These special scholarships are named in honor of the late Willie Scott Jr., the father of Beverly Chapple, a field representative for the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund.

Pryor also received an additional $250 scholarship for being the awarded as the best all-around. This award is named in honor of Donald Hatchett, a former longtime JCSPSF board member.

The mission of the Jefferson County Single Parent Scholarship fund is to enable single parents to attain self-sufficiency through post-secondary education. Applicants may visit the Jefferson County page of the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund website at http://www.aspsf.org/county_jefferson.html to download a scholarship application and to revieweligibility requirements.

JCSPSF is currently accepting scholarship applications from single parents living in Jefferson County. Students applying for the spring 2013 scholarship cycle will be able to apply using a new online application. The deadline to apply is January 20.
