Maurice L. "Footsie" Britt (1919–1995), excelled as an athlete, soldier, businessman and, as a politician, served as the state’s first Republican lieutenant governor since the Brooks-Baxter War, for two terms. Britt was the first American soldier to earn all the U.S. Army’s top awards, including the Medal of Honor, during one war. One of his many battle wounds led to the amputation of his right arm.
