Show Notes

The Fayetteville City Council is considering renaming Archibald Yell Boulevard to Nelson Hackett Boulevard. Yell was the state’s second governor. Hackett fled enslavement in 1841 to Canada. Yell sent a letter to the colonial governor of Canada requesting Hackett be returned. Hackett was extradited back to Fayetteville, publicly whipped and sold back into slavery. The British government subsequently made the extradition of people fleeing slavery nearly impossible.
