Searles Prairie

July 18, 2012 10:57 a.m.

Searles Prairie is believed to be the last tract of virgin prairie in the region. The 10-acre prairie of grassland and flowers thrives in the shadow of development all around. In 1988, the late Anna Mae Searles, owner of the property, granted a conservation easement to the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission to protect it. Visitors are welcome to walk through the prairie, but there is no trail. People are asked to tread lightly and not pick any plants or collect seeds. It is located in Rogers at the intersection of Dixieland and Hudson roads. Photos by Flip Putthoff.
