Over the past century or so, Berryville and Eureka Springs have feuded over courthouses and county-seat status. After an election, Berryville officially became the county seat in 1875, but Arkansas Act 74 of 1883 established two judicial districts in Carroll County, separated by the Kings River, with courts in both towns.
