Salma Nazarkhan cleans up a flower bed Monday at Leverett Elementary School in Fayetteville with other volunteers. They planted trees, spread mulch and cleaned up the landscape Monday to commemorate Earth Day and help beautify the school. The event was organized by Apple Seeds Inc., a nonprofit organization that helps teach kids about making healthy, nutritious food choices and caring for their environment, said Christine Haller, Apple Seed Board member and PTO chairwoman of the Leverett Elementary Beautification Committee.
