Ted McConnaughey, 79, of Rogers passed away in the early morning hours of September 27th. Ted was born in Rogers, Arkansas on Sept. 11, 1939 to A.R. and Sallie Breeze McConnaughey. Ted retired from the Rogers School District where he had been a Jr. High Counselor at Elmwood and Oakdale Jr. High Schools. Previously, Ted was a three sport coach in McGehee, Arkansas for 9 years. In college, Ted had remarkable sports achievements. He attended Oklahoma State University where he led the conference in rushing for the freshmen conference football team. He transferred to Arkansas State Teacher's College (now University of Central Arkansas) where he played 2 years, leading the team and conference in rushing yards. Ted graduated early and started coaching the McGehee Owls. After 9 years of coaching, Ted returned to U of A to earn his master's degree in Counseling in Educational Psychology. He then began his career at the Rogers School District, working there until retirement. Ted enjoyed his garden, golfing, tennis, running and stayed very close with his high school friends, Steve Roberts, Buzz Boyer and Larry Garrett. He enjoyed keeping up with classmates of RHS Class of 1958 and UCA, where he was a lifetime letterman. He is survived by two sisters, Susie Baker of Higginsville, Mo. and Nancy Lancaster of Mobile, Alabama; one brother, Don McConnaughey of Ocean Shores, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jodie Barker and Ruth Thompson; two brothers, Ralph and Jim McConnaughey.
