Berta Joan Neeley Power

Berta Joan Neeley Power, 88, a longtime northwest Arkansas resident, died Aug. 30 in Mesa, Ariz. She was 88. The daughter of Carl and Annie Neeley, Joan (pronounced Joanne) was born on Oct. 16, 1929 and grew up in McAdoo Texas, where she graduated high school. She married Ellis Eugene Power in 1950 and the couple bought the Neeley family farm. They had three children. In 1966, the couple purchased a farm in Centerton, Ark., where they lived for three decades. Joan was a homemaker for many years and worked as a quality control inspector for Walmart before retiring to Beaver Lake in Rogers, Ark. She belonged to the United Methodist Church, a sorority and Daughters of the American Revolution. She and Ellis moved to Mesa in 2015 to be near their son. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, and siblings Edith Neeley, Earl Parker, Koy Neeley, Theresa Holmes, Winnie "Pete" Burney and Nell "Polly" Byrum. She will be missed by family who survive her: brother, Kenneth Neeley of Amarillo, Texas; son, Neeley "Todd" Power of Mesa, Ariz.; daughters, Karen Power of Green Bay, Wis., and Kandace Power Graves of New Orleans, La.; grandchildren, Adrian Power of Ames, Iowa, Christopher Power of Bentonville, Ark., Jessica Power Garen of Washington, Mo., Ian Power-Luetscher of Milwaukee, Wis., Megan Graves of San Francisco, Calif., and Amy Graves of Denver, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Ashler and Gordon Garen (Jessica); and Jayden Willard and Blakesley Power (Christopher); and dozens of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. A memorial will be held in McAdoo, Texas at a later date.
