Gary Thomas Deakins

Gary Thomas Deakins, age 73, of Rogers, Arkansas left this life to be with his Savior on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He was born July 3rd, 1945 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to John and Clara Deakins. He was a long time employee and retired from Rogers Tool Works in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janice Palmer Deakins, a brother, J.L. Deakins, brother-in-law Jimmy Smith, his parents and grandparents. Mr. Deakins was a former resident of Holt, Alabama where he worked for Gulf States Paper and Atrax/Kennametal. Gary proudly served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Holt Baptist Church. Gary lived for his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Gary was a volunteer for CARE Community Center in Rogers where he coordinated food pick up for those in need in his community. Gary was a gentleman and embodied all that is truly honorable in a person. His genuine kindness and gentle ways blessed all that knew him. Gary is survived by his daughter Kimberly Ann and husband Charles Porter of Rogers, Arkansas; a son, Jeffery Thomas and wife Karen Deakins of Daphne, Alabama; five grandchildren, Brittany Porter Carpenter of Bentonville, Arkansas; Zachary and Mikayla Porter, of Rogers, Arkansas; Sarah and Coleman Deakins of Daphne, Alabama; two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Marie and Truitt Mason Carpenter of Bentonville, Arkansas; a sister, Peggy Smith of Northport, Alabama; a niece Cynthia Smith Sneed and husband John of Gadsden, Alabama; many beloved family members and friends. Visitation will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at 2 p.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Rick Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Charles Porter, Zachary Porter, Coleman Deakins, John Sneed, Larry Herring, JJ Jones, and Truitt Carpenter. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to CARE Community Center, P.O. Box 1030, Rogers, Ark. 72757 to continue Gary's work of feeding those in need.
