Deanna Kay Mikesell Higuera (Dee) left this earthly plane on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the age of 71. She leaves behind two daughters, Lisa Higuera of Fayetteville and Michelle Higuera of Cave Springs; two brothers, Bob Mikesell (Elizabeth) of Tucson, Ariz. and Kevin Mikesell of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Judy Adamson (Norm) of Quincy, Calif. and Mia Bobo (Tim) of Land O Lakes, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Cheryle, Jeff, Amber, Victor, Frances, Alyssa and Ash; several treasured aunts, uncles and cousins; and of course her beloved "grand dogs" Abbey and Penny. Not to be forgotten are her numerous extended family members both near and far. If you are one of her chosen kids, brothers or sisters you are among the lucky elite who were loved as much as the rest of us. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Ruth Mae Burns Mikesell and Verlin Eugene Mikesell, former fiance' Allen Boudreaux, former husband Ronald Higuera, and too many adored family and friends. Deanna was a light in this world who brought love and joy wherever she shined. She was a single mother who gave all of herself raising two strong, independent women. Dee was a poet, a teacher, an activist and a humanitarian. She had several career paths, her last one being 18 years with Walmart where she made even more amazing personal connections. Upon retiring in 2012, she was finally able to pursue her lifelong dream of humanitarianism. She gave tirelessly of herself by loving, comforting, teaching, and even relocating people who were torn apart by the civil violence in Libya and Afghanistan. Dee also loved every minute she spent with her grand pups, Abbey and Penny, showering them with love, play, and sneaked treats under the dining table. The Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018, 2 p.m. at the Mt. Sequoyah outdoor chapel 150 N Skyline Dr., Fayetteville, Ark. 72701. Mt. Sequoyah is unable to accept floral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Dee's memory to the following organizations: International Rescue Committee Libya: https://help.rescue.org/donate, Northwest Arkansas Women's Shelter: http://nwaws.org/, Humane Society of the Ozarks: https://hsozarks.org/.
