Barbara Ruth Baker, 82, of Springdale, Arkansas died July 24, 2018 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. The daughter of Viola C. and Forrest E. Hight, she was born December 21, 1935 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She met the love of her life, Joseph Scott Baker, while she was still in school at Springdale High School. They were married on June 5, 1953. Barbara dreamed of becoming a commercial artist, but raising her family and making sure her children went to church on Sunday became her calling. She was a Christian of Baptist faith. Barbara continued to enjoy painting, creating her own works of art and also with a career at Parke Avalon studios where she was able to use her artistic talents. She loved doing all kinds of craft projects with her grandkids while they were growing up. Her sparkling green eyes always lit up when around family and friends, usually having fun playing some game (especially Yahtzee). She always had fun with her husband and best friend, Joe (who always called her "Kid"), whether they were camping, spending time with their grandkids or the occasional trip to Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 47 years, and her brothers Walter, Adrian, Richard and Norman Hight. She is survived by two children, her daughter, Tammie Jo Baker of Springdale and her son, Terry Scott (Susie) Baker of Springdale; nine grandchildren: Amanda (Joe) Utsch of Fayetteville, Ark., Sarah (Kevin) Carlson of Houston, Texas, Brandon Baker of Anderson, Ind., Preston (Lacey) Baker of Tampa, Fla., Peyton Baker of Chicago, Ill., Cameron Baker of Jackson, Miss., Carson Baker of Fayetteville, Ark., Arika (Scott) Padgett of Hutto, Texas, Chris Baker of Little Rock, Ark. and two great-grandchildren, Micah and Noah Padgett of Hutto, Texas. A private graveside ceremony is planned at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale, Arkansas. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale and request that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Rd., Springdale, Ark. 72762.
