David Thomas Bailey, age 73, of Fayetteville, Arkansas died at home after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was born March 14, 1944 in New Haven, Connecticut to Kenneth and Sherline Bailey. He was surrounded by family and friends during his last days. A wise and friendly man, he attracted a loyal circle of friends everywhere he lived, whether that was Huntsville, Texas, Fayetteville, Arkansas, or Deer Isle, Maine. Although many remember him for his long career as a professor at SHSU, he was most in his element pursuing one of his hobbies: carpentry, blacksmithing, or working on cars. At home, he loved to host parties where he could tell stories, wax philosophical, or share his unconventional views on the issues of the day. He is survived by his children, Kay Bailey of Arlington, Virginia, and David Bailey of Libertyville, Illinois, and by his four grandchildren, Iona and Liam Bailey and Amanda and Elisa Boiani. There will be a brief service followed by a potluck and sharing of stories about David at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 224 N East Ave, in Fayetteville from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington Office on Latin America, https://www.wola.org d-baileymemorialfund.\ or to the Island Heritage Trust of Deer Isle, http://www.islandheritagetrust.org. Please share your fond thoughts and memories of David on his memorial page at www.WestfieldChapel.com.
