Jim Burkeen, "The Gutter King" of Rogers, 83, passed peacefully into heaven, on Friday, Feb.16, with his wife, Gay and his dog, Mickey by his side. He was a loving husband, dad, granddad to his grandchildren and pappy to his great grand children. He was saved and loved the Lord. Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gay Burkeen, daughters, Debbie Doster (Larry) of Chapin, S.C., Wendy (Gary) Burkeen-Ruble of Rogers and son, James W. Burkeen, of Rogers, grandchildren; Kayce (Tim) Smith of Rogers, Kourtney (Tyler) Sinclair of Charlotte, N.C. and Kyle (Marissa) Van Deusen of Simpsonville, S.C. and six great-grandchildren and his brother, Joe Burkeen of Milan, Mich. along with many other family and friends. James Robert Burkeen was born Oct. 21, 1934 in Murray, Kentucky. Upon arriving in Rogers from the Detroit area in 1973, Jim started a guttering business and became involved in the community. He was a Rogers Little League baseball coach for many years and a member of Rogers Church of the Nazarene. He loved people and enjoyed sharing a laugh or a story, especially on KURM radios Dial-a- Trade program. After a private family burial on Friday, the family will be available for a casual visit from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Rogers Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites, 1803 S. 52nd Street, Rogers, Ark. 72758. An informal, "Celebration of Life" gathering will follow, at 3 p.m. at the same address. Knowing that Jim was most comfortable in his blue jeans, work shirt and baseball cap, please feel free to dress as casually as you wish when you join us on Saturday.
