Robert F. "Bob" Benedict, age 96, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away Friday February 16, 2018 at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community – Collins House in Manhattan, Kansas. Bob was born on October 17, 1921 in Waterville, Kansas the son of Edna (Davis) and Foster Benedict. After graduating high school he attended the University of Kansas for one year, before moving to Wichita, Kansas to work for Culver Aircraft. On April 4, 1943, Bob married the love of his life, June Clark, in Barnes, Kansas. He and June moved to Garden City, Kansas, where Bob worked managed the McCallister-Fitzgerald Lumberyard for twenty years. During this time, Bob and June purchased the Coast-to-Coast Hardware Stare in Garden City. They owned and operated the store for 25 years before selling and retiring to Bella Vista, Arkansas. Bob and June enjoyed their time in Bella Vista, playing golf, traveling, and entertaining family and friends. They moved back to Manhattan, Kansas to Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community to be closer to their daughter's family. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing golf, traveling near and far, and he was a big sports fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Ed Benedict. Bob is survived by his wife of 74 years, June Benedict, his daughter, Terri Benedict Herde, his son-in-law, John Herde, his grandchildren, Laura Herde, Bryan Herde, and Katy Herde, his six great-grandchildren, and his brother Jack Benedict and his wife Jan of Arizona. The family will greet friends during a visitation at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday February 21, 2018 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Memorial Service will be held following the visitation at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Melanie Martin officiating. Private Inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Meadowlark Hills Good Samaritan Fund or the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
