Richard "Pete" Bartlett

Richard "Pete" Bartlett of Elm Springs passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 after a brave battle with cancer. Although a man of few words, his generous actions spoke volumes to all those that knew him. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and friend. Pete was raised in Madison County where he was one of nine siblings. It was there that his love for the outdoors began to grow. On his 18th birthday, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he would serve his country dutifully for eight years, including two years in Vietnam. Upon discharge, Pete was a decorated soldier having earned a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. After completing his military service, Pete made his home in Springdale, Arkansas where he met the love of his life and wife of almost 45 years, Christine Bartlett. Their marriage was marked by faithfulness to one another, God and family. He also began his career at Tyson Foods where he worked on the research farm for 30 years. Together, Pete and Christine raised a daughter, Valery Stout, a son, Travis Bartlett, and grandson, Steven Stout. Their home in Elm Springs was known as a gathering place where family, friends, dogs, horses and even hogs could enjoy themselves. Pete's passions included hunting, fishing and serving others. He was known for sharing his time, produce and famous homemade desserts with everyone around him. If Pete saw someone in need, whether it be a friend or a stranger, he sought to fill the need and asked for no recognition and nothing in return. Pete loved his God and was a man of strong faith, often reading his Bible before starting his daily routine. Although he will be missed by all those that loved him on Earth we are rejoicing that today he is in the loving arms of Jesus Christ. Pete is survived by his wife, Christine; children, Valery Stout, Travis (Katy) Bartlett; grandchildren, Steven (Corrie) Stout, Dairrein (Brian) Greenwood, Phoenix Guess and Alyson Bartlett; great grandchildren, Adyn Stout and Jackie and Brilee Greenwood; siblings Anna Lee Farrell, Margie Armer, Jim (Betty) Bartlett, John (Frankie) Bartlett and Dean (Johnnie) Bartlett as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by siblings Doyle Bartlett, Lloyd Bartlett, Ines Walker and Thelma Bartlett; as well as his parents John D and Josie Bartlett. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Westfield Chapel Funeral Home, 3236 W. Huntsville Ave, Springdale, Ark. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2018 at Westfield Chapel. Burial will follow at 12 p.m. at Fayetteville National Cemetery, 700 S. Government Avenue, Fayetteville, Ark.
