Brian Arthur Spencer

Brian Arthur Spencer of Farmington, Ark. passed away from an apparent heart attack on August 18, 2018. Brian was born at the U.S. Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany on April 2, 1957 to Edward E and Donna Lou Smith Spencer. He grew up in Mt. Vernon, Missouri and graduated from Missouri State University in 1979 with a degree in marketing and a minor in religion. Brian was a lifetime PGA Professional and worked as a head professional at golf clubs in Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas throughout his career. He was the first head professional at Pinehust Golf and Country Club of Asia in Bangkok, Thailand where he started the first junior golf school and caddie training program in that part of the world. Brian retired from the golf profession but remained involved with golf by giving private lessons, writing golf articles, and consulting. He loved helping others achieve their golf goals and was an encouraging and supportive teacher. In recent years, Brian worked at the Wal Mart Optical Lab in Fayetteville, Ark. In addition to golf, he enjoyed fishing, music and all things Razorback. He was a strong Christian with incredible Bible knowledge who was often described as a loyal friend with a big heart. Brian is survived by his father, Edward E. Spencer of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; his brother, Scott and wife Gale of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; his two nieces and their husbands, Whitney and Eric Arthur of Fayetteville, Ark. and Caroline and Jay Robbins of Little Rock, Ark. and one great-nephew, Wynn Edward Arthur. Brian is also survived by a fiancé, Jetta Airhart of Mesquite, Texas. Memorials may be made to the Disciples of Christ Christian Church of Mt. Vernon, Mo. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Pineville Cemetery in Pineville, Missouri under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville, Missouri.
