Patricia Ann "Pat" Pond

Patricia Ann "Pat" Pond of Fayetteville, Arkansas died Monday September 11, 2017. Pat was born August 24, 1933, at Wheaton, Missouri, and was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Gertrude Carney Pond, and her brother, Bob Pond. Pat grew up in Fayetteville, received her Fayetteville High School diploma, followed by her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Arkansas in 1955, and decided to "go west young lady, go west." She taught elementary physical education in the Washington School District, Phoenix, Arizona for 24 years, and retired from the Arizona State Retirement System. Before "coming home to Arkansas," Pat worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Arkansas for 2 years, receiving her Masters of Education in 1964, and also was an assistant professor of physical education at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois. Not content to just teach the "kids on the playground," Pat found time to be a member of Wiggins Memorial (now Genesis) United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Busy Bees Extension Homemakers Club, AAP, University of Arkansas Lady Razorback Foundation, University of Arkansas Alumni Association, and the Diabetes Support Group of Washington Regional Medical Center. Pat is survived by several cousins, her sister-in-law, Janet Pond, niece, Kelle Pond Pugh. A great-niece whose name is Emerson but who Pat lovingly referred to as "the pink squirrel." And many, many friends. Pat requested that when she died, that no services were to be planned and cremation is under the direction of Moore's Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Wiggins Memorial (now Genesis) United Methodist Church, the Pat Walker Senior Health Center, Diabetes Education, or Washington Regional Medical Center. Pat's Motto: "It doesn't matter if you won or lost, but how you played the game." All who knew Pat will remember that she played the game of life to its fullest and finest.
