James M. "Jim" Newton passed away on Thursday, Oct. 26 at the age of 75. He was born in Jennings, La., on Dec. 14, 1941 to James and Mildred Stackhouse Newton. Jim was reared in Lafayette, La., and graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana with a degree in History and Speech. He then attended McNeese State University obtaining a Masters and a Specialist degree. He was in the Education field as a High School Guidance Counselor and enjoyed working with young people at Lake Charles High School for many years. He was a deacon and active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles before moving to Rogers, Ark., where he and wife, Beth are now members of First Baptist Church. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Michael Newton and a favorite aunt, Bernice Newton. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 51 years, Beth, and two sons, Kevin and wife, Betsy of Lowell, Arkansas and Keith and wife, Maryanne, of Cave Springs, Arkansas. Also six much-loved grandchildren: Ashleigh, Taylor, Chance, Kaitlyn, Bryce and Laura. A brother, Timothy and wife, Annie of Dandridge, Tenn., and also other friends and family members. The family would like to express gratitude to Shiloh Nursing Home and Circle of Life Hospice both in Springdale, Ark., for their excellent care during Jim's illness. Jim has entered his eternal home in Heaven. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Funeral arrangements are by Benton Country Memorial Funeral Home in Rogers, Ark. Visitation will be two hours before the service. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31st at 3800 W. Walnut, Rogers, Ark., with burial to follow in Bentonville City Cemetery, Bentonville, Ark. Online guest book can be found at bentoncountymemorialpark.com.
