Phyllis Marion Bergstrom

Phyllis Marion Bergstrom, 92, died October 25, 2017 at her home in Bella Vista, Ark. She was born February 9, 1925 in Middleton, Mich. to Dr. Carlisle M. Denney and Pearl Vallance Denney. Phyllis was educated at Clearly College and Central Michigan University, both in Michigan. She was married to Jack A. Bergstrom in 1948 and lived in Midland, MI for 30 years where her husband established his optometric practice. In Midland, Phyllis was a homemaker as well as an active volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Church where she played piano and organ, taught Sunday School etc. She was also involved in the local optometric auxiliary and the county safety council, and held offices in the state and nationally. She and Jack lived at Sugar Springs, MI for 10 years where she became active for the Sugar Springs POA, music, and held the office of Township Trustee. Moving to Bella Vista in 1989, she became active in the community and was a member of United Lutheran Church where she was accompanist for the adult choirs for 22 years and Bel Canto as well as playing for many other programs in the area. She held offices in Welcome Wagon, the Bella Vista Pre-School Board, 9-hole Ladies Golf and was a member of several groups. Preceding her in death was her husband of 68 years, Dr. Jack Bergstrom. Preceding her also was her youngest son, Tom Carlisle Bergstrom (2004) and brothers, Robert and Gene of Michigan. Survivors are her son, Chris and (Fran) Bergstrom of St. Johns, Mich. and daughter, Sue and (Charlie) Griffin of Thayne, Wyo.; grandchildren, Anthony Bergstrom, Grand Rapids, Mich., Dane Bergstrom, St. Johns, Mich, Amoreena Bergstrom, Lansing, Mich, Katie and (Tanner) Messer, Centennial, Colo., Rory Griffin, Auburn, Wyo. and great-grandson, Owen Messer. A memorial service will held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 30th at United Lutheran Church with inurnment of ashes at United Lutheran Church Columbarium. Memorials may be made to United Lutheran Church Music Dept., or a favorite charity.Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.
