Sharon "Sherri" Kaye Smith Chambers, a tax accountant in Van Buren, Ark., died peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 5, 2017 at the age of 64. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie A. Chambers and parents, Robert H. Smith, Sr. and Norma J. Mincey Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer A. Thompson (Andrew) of Bonnerdale; and three grandchildren, Andrea J. Thompson, Landon T. Scott and Hunter L. Thompson; one sister, Karen J. Reilly of Sherwood; three brothers, Ronnie Ringer (Connie) of Mayflower, Robert H. Smith, Jr. (Debra) of Lonoke, and Patrick W. Smith Sr. of Lonoke; and a host of extended family and friends. Sherri was born in North Little Rock, Ark., on March 2, 1953 to Robert H. Smith Sr. and Norma J. Mincey Smith. She graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1971. Sherri was a very determined individual. She operated a tax practice for more than 30 years and her clients became lifelong friends. Sherri was very creative; she loved playing the saxophone, sewing and baking. She was also active in her community, sitting on many boards and serving many associations. Sherri had fun too, she traveled the world and as a collector of vintage cars she often participated in road trips with other car enthusiasts. But the thing she enjoyed the most was helping other people. Sherri never met a stranger and was never afraid to try new things. At the age of 58 she entered college at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith and graduated in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Business Administration/Marketing. Even with her many achievements, what she was most proud of was her grandchildren. They were truly the light of their "Oma's" eyes. A funeral service is scheduled for Sherri at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at Northside United Pentecostal Church at 3700 Kelley Highway in Fort Smith, Ark. Visitation is scheduled from 3–6 p.m., immediately preceding the service. Officiating the service will be Rev. B.J. Thomas, Rev. Darrell Runyan and Rev. Donnie Copeland. Interment is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark., located at 7724 Landers Road. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been set up in Sherri's honor for her grandchildren. Contributions may be made in the name of Jennifer A. Thompson at any Arvest Bank, account ending in 5283. Arrangements by Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home. Online obituary at www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
